GEORGE
TOWN: The Health Ministry has stressed that clinics must have operating licence
and be registered with the ministry.
Health
Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said this was to ensure the public
did not seek treatment from illegal clinics.
He said
the ministry was strict in this matter as it did not want the people to risk
their health in seeking treatment from illegal clinics.
He said
this at a press conference on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ at the Adventist Hospital
yesterday.
Dr Hilmi
urged those who stumbled upon illegal clinics to report to the health
authorities.
On
Thursday, the state health department ordered a health and aesthetic clinic in
Icon City to close down during a two-hour raid when it was found not registered
with the ministry.
Medical
supplies and related-paraphernalia were seized from the clinic.
The
premises was sealed under Section 4(1) of the Private Healthcare Facilities and
Services Act 1988. If the clinic can produce its registration certificate
within 21 days, the seal will be removed.
Initial
checks revealed the clinic had provided services which included, among others,
minor surgery, pregnancy test, health screening, vaccination, immunisation and
alternative medicine.
The
services were displayed on the front glass door.
According
to state health director Datuk Dr Zailan Adnan, the raid was conducted
following public information that the clinic was operating illegally.
