BANGKOK –
The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) recent participation in the
International Travel Expo 2016 (ITE 2016) Hong Kong, which took place from
16-19 June, 2016, has received tremendous success, further strengthening
Thailand’s positive image as a popular tourist destination among the Hong Kong
residents.
Mrs.
Titiporn Maneenate, Director of TAT Hong Kong Office said, “Hong Kong is one of Thailand’s important tourist markets contributing
a significant numbers of visitors to the Kingdom each year. TAT’s on-going
participation in the annual ITE Hong Kong is to reiterate Thailand’s superb
tourism offerings ranging from unique culture, abundant natural beauty and
remarkable variety of activities including soft-adventure, spa, shopping and
medical tourism. This is also to ensure Thailand’s appeal as a tourist
destination among the Hong Kong residents.”
During
the ITE 2016 Hong Kong, TAT presented Thailand in a prominent country pavilion
that featured the Kingdom’s wide range of tourism offerings as well as
up-and-coming attractions; such as, Muay Thai camps in Bangkok. There were also
demonstrations on how to create Thai arts and handicrafts including paper
umbrella painting. Visitors to the pavilion also had the chance to experience a
short session of a Thai spa treatment and sample some favourite Thai dishes.
The
Thailand Pavilion at the ITE 2016 was joined by a host of leading Thai tourism
product and service providers including the Cartoon Network Amazone, Courtyard
Marriott Thailand (Bangkok and Pattaya), KC Grand Resort and
Spa, The Aiyapura Ko Chang, and Khongsittha Muay
Thai.
The
annual ITE Hong Kong, which in 2016 marked its 30th edition, was held in two
parts, the trade day for business-to-business discussions on 16-17 June, and
the public day which highlighted tourism packages and seminars for the general
public on 18-19 June.
During
the public day, the TAT Hong Kong Office also held a seminar
titled, Summer Party in Thailand, inviting Mr. Roger Wu, Hong
Kong’s famous writer and TV host to share his experiences on Thailand to entice
the Hong Kong residents to plan their summer holidays in the Kingdom. The
seminar attracted more than 200 attendees, whose names were entered into a
lucky draw for the chance to win aBangkok Airways’ air ticket to
Thailand.
Mrs.
Titiporn said, “We are so overwhelmed by the tremendous response from visitors
attending the ITE 2016 Hong Kong. Based on our estimation, more than 100,000
visitors visited the Thailand pavilion and attended our seminar throughout the
four-day event.”
Thailand
is the only country in Asia that was voted as one of the Most Admirable Holiday
Countries in the New Travel Routings Contest 2016 by U Magazine, a Hong
Kong-based travel and lifestyle publication. The magazine invited Hong Kong
residents to vote for their most admirable holiday countries in May 2016, and
eight countries around the world were voted in. The result was announced on 17
June, 2016.
In 2015,
Thailand welcomed a total of 669,165 visitors from Hong Kong, representing a
38.51 per cent increase over 2014. For this year, from January to May, some
